Eau De Maison (“Housewater”)

What if you could produce clean drinking water just by running your air conditioner? This is an experiment to see how much water could potentially be captured from an home’s rooftop package air conditioning unit, during a summer heat wave. Conducted in July 2017 during a particularly sweltering Los Angeles week, Eau De Maison documents the process of constructing the water capture system, implementing the experiment, and analyzing the results of the follow-up water quality testing. Thanks to Wallace Laboratories for their assistance. Music by Protman. Produced for AHBE LAB.

  1. There’s a lovely symmetry about letting your daughter try this water before sending it for testing to see if it’s safe. It’s a modern take on riding a bike behind the mosquito spraying vans in New Orleans until you fall off. So nostalgic.
And she doesn’t even get a credit.
